Lora Ferguson, clarinetist, has been a member of the Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra since 1980, serving as assistant principal clarinet. The Orchestra performs for all of the productions of the Washington National Opera as well as for visiting ballet companies and other Kennedy Center productions. She has been the clarinetist for many years with the Capitol Woodwind Quintet, a chamber group that produces its own concert series in Washington. Her career as a freelance musician has included principal clarinet positions with the Filene Center (Wolf Trap) Orchestra, National Gallery Orchestra, Washington Concert Opera, American Chamber Orchestra, Virginia Chamber Orchestra, American Camerata for New Music, Amadeus Orchestra and other groups. As a clarinet teacher, Lora is on the faculty at the Levine School of Music, George Washington University and George Mason University. She enjoys performing chamber music with her orchestra colleagues on the Millennium Stage at the Kennedy Center and at other venues. Her music degrees are from Oberlin College Conservatory and Catholic University, with additional study at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria.
