Together we will explore ways in which the organist can model the nature and style of a hymn, and lead a congregation with appropriate style and substance. Whether reflective or bursting with praise, modest or big-boned, each hymn has a distinct personality. We organists have a sacred duty to draw out these varied personalities in ways that encourage singing in our congregations.

Bruce Neswick is the Director of Music at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, New York City, where he directs the Choir of Girl, Boys and Adults. A graduate of Pacific Lutheran University and the Yale Institute of Sacred Music, he also holds the Fellowship degrees from the American Guild of Organists and the Royal School of Church Music. Mr. Neswick studied organ with David Dahl, Gerre Hancock, Robert Baker and Lionel Rogg and has been the winner of three improvisation competitions, including the AGO national in 1990. A published composer of organ and choral music, Mr. Neswick performs under the management of Phillip Truckenbrod Concert Artists.
