This workshop is for beginner and intermediate organ improvisers who want to expand their harmonic, rhythmic, and stylistic palette. We will explore international music styles that lend themselves to the organ and touch on jazz progressions, voicings, and styles. Dorothy will ask for volunteers, so bring your shoes and lots of questions! Manuscript paper and recorder are recommended so you can take home what you hear and dazzle your congregation!

Dorothy Papadakos was Organist at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine from 1990-2003, the first woman appointed to this position, having served as Paul Halley's Organ Scholar and Assistant Organist. She received her Master's degree from Juilliard, and she studied improvisation with Gerre Hancock, Paul Halley and Lyle Mays of the Pat Metheny Group. Her new musical BACCHUS smashed box office records in NC and is in development for future productions. She improvises silent films around the world and is a member of the 6 time Grammy Award winning Paul Winter Consort. She has 5 CD's with Pro Organo and won the 1983 NYC AGO competition.
